I am Arundathi Gopal, a science and law graduate and an entrepreneur with a keen interest in Hindu religion and religious practices. Always in the quest of finding the moral and scientific reasons behind the rituals.
With a belief that 365 days in a year has its own scientific, religious and spiritual significance when spent with consciousness. In the process, I divided the poems into two parts Uttarayana and Dakshinayana. Uttarayana is that part of the year where the sun appears to be moving towards Northern hemisphere resulting in long days and small nights. Dakshinayana is where the sun appears to be moving towards southern hemisphere resulting in small days and long nights for the rest half of the year.
Based on this, our religious practices and rituals have been meticulously planned for the overall benefit of the mankind. Since ages these rituals and practices have been prescribed by the almighty in his various forms like Lord Krishna through his Bhagvath Gita in Vyasa Maharshi’s Mahabharatam Valmiki in Ramayanam Shankaracharya ‘s and Godha Devi’s literature the list being endless. My poetry is an attempt to impart knowledge in simple language to today’s generation about various festivals, their significance and benefits on the mankind.
My father Late Sri B. Gopal Reddy was an Advocate by profession, He lead a simple life with utmost discipline without compromising on morals and ethics. He was religious yet modern, a true Hari Hara devotee who always taught and tried his best to practice Bhagvath Gita lessons with an unconditional support from my Mother, who always stood by him through thick and thin. He influenced our lives to a great extent, always sharing his religious, political and social views at free will, with not just family, but with everyone around him, adding zest to the ambience.
Having grown up in such environment, hearing from him the tales of Lord Sri Rama, Bhola Shankar ( he fondly called the loved and innocent ones with that name) Sai Baba, Durga Maatha, Lord Ganesha especially during the festivals and about great leaders like Swamy Vivekananda, Ramakrishna paramahamsa, Puttaparthi Saibaba, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Morarji Desai, Neelam Sanjeev Reddy, Vajpayee and our PM Modi the lists goes on, I can feel his influence in my writings to a large extent. He had great regards towards his parents, grand parents and elderly people, in fact he fondly remembered them by using their names as our nicknames. This poetry is a tribute to my Father who nourished us with such values, knowledge serving as an inspiration and guiding force in all my endeavours .
This poetry wouldn’t have been possible without the consistent support and encouragement by my husband Bharath kumar Reddy and my children Triyaksha, Vrushank, my sisters, friends and all near and dear ones who
encouraged me with their constant appreciation.
Last but not the least my dear friend Kalyani who volunteered to devote her valuable time in creating this platform for me, so that my poems can reach out to more readers with similar interest, inquisitiveness to learn and spread our Indian history, rituals and values across the globe. Our history being so rich, an Akshaya patra that never gets exhausted, onus is on each and every one of us to pass on it to the future generations, so as to keep them connected to their roots, I hope our attempt which is just a drop in the ocean will be supported and encouraged.
